anyone see what happened to LY1 this morning? diverted to ewr and they didnt let anyone off because they didnt have a gate for them so they went back to jfk

not sure if this correct place to ask.
it seems that ElAl flights from Johannesburg (and return) are now using the old 777-200ER with the 2-3-2 config in business.
Impression from various articles was that ElAl would not be using these old planes/configs anymore unless retrofitted. - https://www.airguide.info/el-al-upgrades-its-777-business-class/ - I know South Africa usually gets dumped with older planes due to less competition.

Does anyone have any insight? - need to book for August and would hate to waste the points on the old planes.

EL AL moved up the departure of the flight with 6 hours and asking in email to confirm, why do I need to confirm? If I confirm will I lose out later (they will charge me) should I decide that don't want to fly then?

If it’s to/from the US you should be able to cancel for a full refund. Call them ASAP

Is it possible to upgrade with miles after booking from economy to business on an Etihad award ticket (whether now or even at the airport)?

Working on finding seats for 3 going NYC to Israel next month and wondering if there is only availability in J for 2 pax, can I book the 3rd in economy and likely be able to upgrade later - assuming there are still empty seats -  or would that not be possible anyway on an Etihad award?
