Invisalign
« on: May 18, 2016, 10:19:44 AM »
I am looking to do invisalign, i was wondering if anyone recommends a dentist/orthodontist who does it for a great price. I heard their is an invisalign express which is like half the price.
I'm located in Brooklyn, NY.

I have heard from others that it is worth flying to Canada and getting done there as it is 1/4 the price. Maybe someone can verify.

They punch then out in one trip? Or will I need to go back to pick them up?

Not sure but I think 2 or more trips are required. Might for adjustments etc.

At least two trips. Ideally you want to see the dentist every 6-8 weeks (or even more frequently) to make sure your roth are moving as anticipated

numbers are for illustration purposes only:
Invisalign in the USA $4,500
Invisalign in the CA $1,500
 Trip to CA $250 *3
Total cost for CA $2,250

When it becomes 8-10 trips, it starts getting less worthwhile. Traveling close to 10 hours roundtrip for an orthodontist checkup every 8 weeks is brutal.

The USA prices are ridiculous and make no sense . In most of Europe, Canada ,Australia, Israel you pay a fraction for both dental , medical , and medication.  My 2 daughters did it here in the USA, the cost was $3000 each, the dentist gave us a discount of $3000 which seems right according to the USA price average.

I would highly recommend that you don't do that. There is too much potential to mess up your teeth. You're relying on a lab tech from Costa Rica to perform delicate orthodontics.
Invisalign is a name brand so they can charge more . Look for a dentist who offere an alternative and it may be less expensive.

so basically if you go for 2 people you could have 50% off ?
how was the result for your daughters?  will you recommend that dentist? did you had any discount form insurance as well ?

Its not such a crazy thing the 'in home aligners' - alot of big names are getting in the game

obviously, the established orthodontic community is against this...just like taxis were against uber.

A better analogy would be if taxis were against ubers self driving car.
I don't offer Invisalign so I have no skin in the game. The issue is that it is very easy to do permanent damage when moving teeth. If you have nobody following your progress, you may catch it too late. Additionally, when Invisalign send a treatment plan to the dentist, it needs tweaking most of the time. Nobody is doing that if you cut it the middle man.

Almost all require an initial visit or remote/in-person consult set up by the company they have remote docs who monitor you and sign off on each shipment.

Also they only take noncomplex cases - they have criteria.

Additionally, they are not cutting out the doctors - they still use doctors just their own and a lot of it is done remotely.

Further, the only reason all of these are popping up is because Invilsigns patent just ended in 2017. Think of it more as Invisalign competitors but with a start-up twist that cuts out all the trips and kickbacks to the docs... the ortho usually just takes imaging to be sent anyhow to the lab so why not have the lab have doctors on retainer (pun) to do everything.

The price of these new companies aren't even that cheap....most run round 3,000...its not like this is a $300 program.

Even Invisalign is getting in the game and owns a stake in some 'at home' start ups.
