I've been following this phone for awhile, even before google started (the merged a seperate company into theirs) and at first it sounded cool and all, but once you think about it, it is not a phone that you'd need for general everyday use. Maybe its a great phone to have on vacation though (you can keep batteries and better camera modules in your suitcase), but then I would not want to spend to much on it.
I'm not who you think I am.

Not sure how many use cases there are for modules but having third party accessories might be transformational

The best thing on this phone by far, IMHO, is that the battery swap doesn't turn off the phone. They should put that on the s8, it would be revolutionary.
I cant believe they never did that to any phone.

+1.
LG G5 should've been able to do that.

I started following Project ARA when it was still Motorola. I was hoping to see other modules on this, more specifically different screen types/sizes and possibly a physical qwerty keyboard. Didn't have too much time to get involved, so I decided to just wait and see where this goes. Looking at the video on the link posted above, I'm not sure there's much there that gets me excited.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Make the physical keyboard. Heres a simple idea. Have the "paper white" led screen and a physical keyboard, when your phones virtual keyboard pops up the screen on the back of the phone lets you type on the physical keyboard and see what your typing, and then when your done you flip the phone over, and you go back to what you where doing and the small screen in back goes back to the time and weather.

That is because it isn't a battery "swap" per se.

The phone has it's regular battery built in, and you can add additional ones to the back:

The Ara frame contains the CPU, GPU, antennas, sensors, battery and display

"The battery on this prototype is hot swappable, too. Yup! Camargo opened up the bottom, pulled out the battery, and there was enough juice in the frame to just keep the phone running. It probably wouldn't last very long, but definitely long enough to put in a fresh battery, all without rebooting."

Oh. Cool!

LG really missed all the little details on the G5, I guess we'll wait for this.

Maybe they'll even make the main components upgradeable, if not swappable like the original concept. That would make it the last phone you would ever need to buy!

It will take up to much room to even make the main components swappable like a computer (ie. Swappable but you need to open it up and know what your doing), let alone pop in and out pieces. The original idea was to have almost everything swappable, but apparently google decided that wont work, and I dont blame them.
I'm not who you think I am.

I'm thinking that it won't be user-serviceable, but Google would be able to upgrade the main parts for you every so often.

Or that the "frames" will be cheap enough that you can buy a new frame whenever there is a big leap in performance without taking a huge hit to the wallet.

It will most likely bring up the process of the frames big time

Good concept in the mobile space that was unlucky, along with Palm, BB etc.
