Here's another factoid:

In NY Medicaid eligibility is based exclusively on MAGI.

Isn't this a federal rule that would apply to all states?

Here's another factoid:

In NY Medicaid eligibility is based exclusively on MAGI. So one can be super wealthy, and even earn a lot of money, but if their MAGI is below the threshold for Medicaid, they qualify! Case in point, a client of mine recently called me (after the noise from Lakewood) to verify that everything is Kosher with him being on Medicaid. His W-2 income was below $25k (for a household of 6), on a schedule E he showed over $70k of cash coming in, but a most if not all of that was offset by depreciation, so he legally qualifies for Medicaid in NY, despite the fact that he is bringing in over $90k per year!
So same should hold true here ?

Yes. I have both personally. My renewal in NJ is pending now. Hope it goes through without too much headache.

From what I've been reading if a mother is still on her parents' plan (oxford)  and the father is on catastrophic plan an unborn child will be uninsured upon birth. Is there anything that can be done to avoid getting hit with the hospital fees and the initial checkup fees? (assuming medicaid is not an option)
Again, from what I understand, with child health plus a baby can potentially be uninsured for up to six weeks...

Thank you all for your help.

And speak with the local Medicaid office to confirm that CHP won't cover retroactively to birth.

IME, Oxford covers the first 48 hours
Additionally, child health plus covers retroactively from the beginning of the month (for the first month only)

how long ago was the baby born?

we had the baby covered as dependent of a dependent, then 8 months latter we received a letter from the hospital that the payment has been reversed, because the child was not covered.

June 2017
I got the papers from the insurance showing what they're paying for & the baby was included (plus some small deductibles)
