amex return protection

Does amex check to see if the item has been returned? What kind of stuff have you returned? And I know I saw posts about this before, but I cant find them. If anyone has a link please post. Thanks

I once returned suits I bought from an odd sale run by a yeshiva.
I once tried to return a computer, but the said it wasn't in "like new" condition.

If they ask for the item back, they dont credit you until they get it back.

I just returned a gps and they didnt ask for it back ;D Anyone wanna buy one? ;)
ive returned maternity clothes that were brand new and my wife didnt like. The store would only give her store credit. They did want the clothes back.

Correct, and it's a great one.
AMEX Plat, SPG Consumer AMEX, and SPG Business AMEX all have it, so up to $3,000/year if you have all 3.

But the items must be purchased on that respective card, so while you're correct that it's $3,000, it's only $1,000 per card for items purchased on that card.

So what does this protection mean exactly, if you are unhappy with a purchased product and the store refuses to exchange or what? Untill how long after purchase etc

You have 90 days to tell AMEX you want to return something that a store refused to return.  You can do it online.
Then AMEX will wait a couple of weeks and either give a credit or ask you to return the item to them within 30 days for a credit.
