Dishwasher that does not light up when opened
« on: May 31, 2016, 05:06:53 PM »
Not looking to get into a halachic debate about loading the dishwasher on shabbos etc....But has anyone redone the kitchen lately and would you happen to know which dishwashers can be opened without the lights going on?

Thanks

Simply buy one without lights.
You can always ask a jewish store which ones are good (they also happen to be cheaper than regular stores too imho).
I'm not who you think I am.

If the dishwasher is powered off IME no light will go on.  I have a Bosch 24 Pocket Handle Dishwasher Benchmark® Series- Stainless steel SHP7PT55UC

WHen I looked into it about 2 years ago GE were problematic and Whirlpool and their sister brands were okay, but this can change in a season.

+1 I have been very happy with the advice from Town Appliance in Lakewood. (BTW, I am pretty sure they deliver to NY)

Simply buy one without lights.

Those will be the VERY low end models and are low end in other ways as well.

Low end dishwashers clean better than the high end ones that are all about efficiency ime

That depends. Most low end do no have arms for the upper rack. If they do then they often have a tower blocking the middle of the bottom rack etc etc

I've gotten most of my appliances from Towne in Lakewood (delivered to Far Rock) and have been very happy. I've never found any of those items cheaper at any other store IIRC

I have a high end Kitchen Aid that's several years old.  When it finishes it's cycle, it has a light on.  But when you open the door and then close it, the light goes out and stays out until you turn the machine on again.
I have no problem emptying it on Shabbos (as long as I opened and closed it before Shabbos - to check if my kids really left it full), or refilling it (as per my version of Halacha).
