I searched around and couldn't find a clear answer on this - I bought a ticket on United to fly back to NY and the flight got cancelled. They then put me on a Delta flight the next morning - I havent received mileage from either company yet. Should I be able to get from both or just United from whom I booked or just Delta from whom I flied?

You may be able to get miles from both. You'll have to email United and ask for original routing credit.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

That makes sense. But getting miles on a flight you didn't take is the good part.

Just see you said award. Yes, that's fun too. But OP was speaking of paid flights.

this works even if they place you on a partner airline

in fact, since the fare class is usually much higher than the original ticket since united paid LH for example, for the seat, you'll come out better than originally

especially if united credits you as if you flew them and then LH credits you for the flight too.........
