Author Topic: Shoprite discontinuing variable load GC? (Read 4148 times)

A friend of mine was just in shoprite in Brooklyn (a friendly location), and saw no variable VGCs on the shelf. He asked the manager, who said that they were being discontinued, and were pulled from the shelves. This order supposedly came from corporate yesterday, and applies to all locations. The manager didn't know why, but says it has something to do with money laundering.

Was just there today too. They are out there and available. They need to be loaded at CS using "Code 10" which is a pain because they have to call corporate and verify cc and ID. Takes forever. I have a call into my contact at SR. Will advise when she gets back to me.
What location was this? They are independently owned so it may be different at different locations.

McDonald Avenue. They've always been call in to approve.

Maybe for you. Call in for me started 2 weeks ago. $200 or less can still be done at register without call in. I have a call in to the manager there.

Per my contact, Visa and MC only, discontinued. Other third party GC like ebay variable loads still available.

Wow bad bad news. Which supermarket can we go to now that shop rite and stop and shop are done? Is it only Safeway?

I cant believe its permanent. Its not like it went cash only. They pulled them off the shelves. And its only variable. Plenty of MS opportunities still there.

Same here. Sucks for the Amex offer. Bit of a pain to liquidate so many $100 gc's.

I was at 2 SRs today. One of them pulled the $500 variable cards off the rack (directions from Wakefern). The other one had one MCGC variable card, and the rep was nice enough to try it, but it was hard coded not to allow it. BTW, they are now getting in variable VGCs up to $200. So it seems to be settled.
Do any supermarkets still have the $500 cards AND accept cc for them?

Acme. However it's hot or miss some stores have some don't.

I found the last variable MC on a rack at the Monticello, NY store. The manager called me over to his station to ring it up, but then he pulled out a manual where he found a page that he claimed instructed him to not sell it and that it was supposed to be pulled from the shelf.
