Upgrading paid BA economy ticket using avios

Hi,

As per BA website, if there is an award set available then you can upgrade using miles. The amount of miles would be the difference between economy award (20-30K) and business award (50-60K) = 30K to upgrade form econ to business.

My question is - can you upgrade using another persons miles or it needs to be coming from flying passenger?

AFAIK, you can't upgrade economy to business, only to economy+, as BA only allows one-class upgrades.

You also need to be booked in an upgradable fare class.

But yes, you can use another person's miles.
