Something conspicuously missing from all the Covid-19 coverage is the effect on the addiction and recovery communities. For addicts, the fear is just another reason to use, and every drug transaction or interaction is making sure they all get infected. I'm pretty sure the immunocompromisation rate in that world is staggering. For those in recovery, meetings are cancelled. Stress and triggers are everywhere. Religious mentors, sponsors, and sober friends aren't readily available. Overdose percentages go up for a relapse versus regular use. Between the overdoses and virus fatalities, the death rate in these vulnerable communities will make senior citizens feel safe.

Please, please, please - if you know someone who deals with addiction, whether active or in recovery, reach out and make sure they are ok.

I figured this fits here better than in the tweets thread:

I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

It’s like a #normalizeheroinaddiction campaign. Marijuana isn’t just a gateway drug for people, it’s apparently also a gateway drug for legalization…

Meanwhile the (Federal?) government will also spend many billions annually on the crisis, as it continues to escalate  :-\ :-\

It seems to be paired with more ads with details on "using safely" (like looking out for fentanyl?)
Not saying I like it, but that's a logical reason for this, and presumably should bring down the (human) cost

Normalizing drug use (essentially normalizing addiction) while mitigating overdose doesn’t bring down the human cost, it just replaces some deaths with more addiction.

also keep in mind that heroin is far more addictive than cigarettes, weed, alcohol, etc, and getting out of a heroin addiction is much harder.
I'd disagree on the cigarettes part. Heroin addicts say that cigarettes are harder to kick than heroin.

The normalizing of any behavior leads to it being more prevalent. The stigmas associated with drug use have all but disappeared. 10 years ago if a frum person smoked weed they were fringe. Today you're a "square" if you don't partake.

Enabling addicts is the worst possible thing.bive seen enough in over 10 years to say this with authority. Relapse is a choice. If I had a dollar for every time I've heard "I fell" "I relapsed" etc. instead of "I made a choice to act out in my addiction" I'd be rich.

Empowering, enabling, condoning, addictive behavior will normalize it and will create more addicts than save existing addicts. I direct you to the sports betting free money thread...addictive behavior condoned and promoted.

This is far from the only way the far-left supports victim mentality.

Advisory: This is from a late-night comedy TV show and probably contains profanity, etc.

Do you want to play a board game, digitally or in Lakewood NJ? PM me. (Can be asynchronous, i.e. take turns whenever)
