In my situation that would help, because then my landlord would be convinced that it needs replacing.

I had someone look at it today, he didn't see anything wrong. Cleaned out some junk from the oven, and lowered the gas valve a little bit for the stove. We will see if it helps at all...
He didn't wait those few minutes to smell?

He waited a couple of minutes and said he didn't smell anything. I smelled it somewhat, but not as strong as other times.

A pro should have a gas smelling tool. Not a nose

An oven pro, or a gas company pro?

Gas company is a great resource.  And they'll usually tag it,  which will require your landlord to have it repaired properly

Well since the guy cleaned it, so far I haven't smelled gas, so that might have been the problem. If it happens again that's probably what I'll do.

Thanks to all for your advice!

Don't worry, it wasn't that exciting. We didn't want to risk fancy food in an oven that wasn't for sure going to work :)

I wanted to try to clean out my dryer vent by myself. Does anyone have any suggestions what type of cleaning kit to buy or how to do it?

I think just a vacuum cleaner.  How long is your vent? Maybe you'll need an extra long hose?

I bought something online years ago. It's basically a brush and a set of flexible rods that screw into each other, so you can reach pretty far. Does the job well (beware of mess coming out, you need to be ready for it). My dryer vent goes up to the roof, so it's probably about 15 feet.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

So my gas dryer stopped heating... According to my best googling I need to replace the solenoids, and indeed both failed a continuity test.

I'm trying to determine which replacement parts I need, as the numbers stamped on the solenoids themselves don't bring anything up. Searching by my dryer model number doesn't give me a straight answer either.

All the replacements solenoids I'm seeing seem correct, but I have no idea if they're actually the right thing.

The dryer is a Whirlpool WGT3300SQ1, and the solenoids are stamped 08306A (2-prong) and 08284A A (3-prong).

Anyone with some insight?

wow that's really interesting. I actually just had to change those on my dryer and I just brought in those solenoid valve coils to sears to show them what I needed and they just gave me what they had and he said you don't need a specific one for your model... and it worked. I have a kenmore dryer but I'm assuming that it's the same with whirlpool. Here's the link to the product I got http://www.searspartsdirect.com/part-number/279834/0026/110.html
It was pretty simple to put them in. You just need to check on YouTube exactly how to open your dryer. Hope this helps you.

Thank you. I was beginning to suspect that these were kinda universal, seems that your Sears guy agrees.

I've already opened up the dryer to test the solenoids for continuity, so now they're already both out. Putting the new ones in should be quick and painless by the look of things.

np. yup same way they came out they go back in. Did you need to take out the drum? Mine was too close to the drum that I couldn't unscrew it without taking it out.
