Topic Wiki

Open Serve: Do 1 of the following:
1) Buy a temporary card. (free in cvs in NJ won’t take cc)($3.95 fee), or
2) Open online. They’ll send you a card. (free)
Note that you COULD have more than one of these: Bluebird (BB), Redcard and serve.

Loading Serve: Serve does not have any fees to load money.
a) At CVS, 7-11, and Rite Aid ONLY CASH can be loaded.
b) At Walmart GCs …uh Debit Cards (besides Vanilla cards) can be loaded onto Serve just like onto BB. Load limit: $2500/day up to $5000/month
c) At Family Dollar max $499.99/Day, not hard coded, YMMV, Cash or Debit/Gift Card.
WARNING: There are reports of debit cards being drained at FD, and not loading onto Serve, so FD is not recommended.
d) An Amex CC of the serve cardholder can be linked and used to fund your Serve ONLINE. Load limit: $200 per day/$1000 per month
Amex cc loads are not considered cash advance. They DO NOT earn points, or count towards a spending threshold.
e) Debit Cards linked to Serve: $200/day up to 1000/month ONLINE.  But only a permanent DC with your name on it. (NOT GCs)

So your total loading limit per month, if using all 3 methods is $7K.

-Serve has a $1 monthly inactivity fee (waived in VA, NY and TX) that is waived if you use Direct Deposit OR add $500.
-If Serve has a bonus for using direct deposit, use AP.

Using the funds on Serve:
-Free ATM use/withdrawal at MoneyPass ATMs. $2 elsewhere.
-Serve has a Bill Pay feature – same as BB.  You tell them who to pay, and they send a check for you.  You can pay up to 5k of unregistered billers, but 10K of registered ones (registered= those on their bill pay list). Pay your Credit Cards bills as well as many other bills or any person!
WARNING: Do not use the bill pay feature to pay the Credit Card that is linked for online loads.
-money in your Serve account can be withdrawn directly to a linked bank account, which, if done too much, may be seen as risky by Serve, but in moderation should be fine.
Withdraw to your bank https://secure.serve.com/Actions/WithdrawMoney

Make sure the name, address and phone number on your profile match your credit card billing address, or you may get declined.  When linking your credit card at serve.com, the website will only show you the address on your profile, but not the phone number, so this is easy to overlook.  Go to profile, and check/update your phone number there.

Error likely with the Serve account:
When you create a new account and add a credit card, you will be allowed to do the first transaction. After that, your account will probably go into system lockdown until you verify some information. Likely error message for this case is "Risk declined operation" when you try to add money on to the account. You will need to send in (online, fax or mail) a photo ID and a copy of your credit card or statement. Upload your documents here -
https://secure.serve.com/User/SecureFileUpload. Then Call up AMEX Account Protection Services at 1-800-555-4318 and tell them you uploaded the documents and ask them to verify it for you.

How about this. The wiki is wrong.
Then tell me an alternative data point?
That's just my opinion.. You don't have any other cc's with a $1500 balance that you could just use serve to pay off with?
I don't trust opinions, I like data points :). That's cuz I am cautious. Currently I have well over 1500$ balances to pay off, but that will end after AP.

OK so my question *still* unanswered whether it's flaggable to mail a 1500$ check to my mother each month?

What about if me and my SO paid eachothers credit card bills each month? Say I use bank x and he uses bank y, and we each pay eachothers 1500$ debt?

Can anyone report on how long it took them to get the card after signup?
If the card dosent reach the U.S address on time, can I get a "replacment" card sent to Israel or at least another U.S address?

New Jersey. along the 1-9 N. right before the Gothels.
Thank you very much, ma'am. Just got 1K in the last few days of my Freedom. :)

Although I would say it's a bit out of the way towards the Goethals (if you pull into the lot, you're a drop past the road for the bridge).

Interesting story...

After I left 7-11, I noticed a Family Dollar around the corner and decided to go in as I've never to one for MS purposes. I picked up a VR and went to the cashier to see if they would let me load it with a CC (what does it hurt, right?). The cashier pointed out to me that this VR was different than the ones I'm accustomed to from CVS and this one wasn't a card you could actually load, but rather it's a VR that you load onto a prepaid card. He pulled an OV off the shelf and said that if I bring in an empty one of "these", he could charge me the $3.95 price on the VR card he has and load money from it onto the OV and that I could load it with a CC. I hope that made sense. If that actually works, it would save $1 per $500 (I assume the max load is still $500 as the OV itself seems to max out at $500, even though this type of VR didn't have the $20-$500 line on it). This VR also had a Serve logo on it and I wonder if I bring my Serve into the store, could they load this VR directly onto it - perhaps even more than $500, but the daily Serve limit? The card also had the Western Union logo on it - perhaps it can be used to buy an MO as, again, the cashier said this VR can be loaded with a CC?

Has anyone ever encountered such a VR/ any experiences?

BUMP (read post right above this)

If I have it correctly, this could be saving everyone $1 per GC...

Every time I'm in Family Dollar loading my serve with that funky VR, they tell me on cash no CC (then I tell them its debit and they let it go).

Ah, okay. Well I didn't actually load it. Could be in practice they won't let me do it with a CC. But if you have a debit (I imagine OV) why do you need this VR then? Can't you just go up to them and tell them you want to load the OV directly onto your Serve?

Yes it was an OV. They scan the VR to load Serve and I pay with the OV as a debit.

This VR is just a way to tell the computer that you're loading.  It's free to load from a debit card at FD. They scan. you swipe your Serve. you swipe your GC.  Lots of telling the machine what you want done in between. ( how much? Cash back? Do you really mean it?)

Aha, so why does the VR say $3.95? Also, cash back? Can't you then load just like $1 and then ask for $499 cash back?

The cashier uses the VR.  You work your side like at WM.
I doubt you can get cash back.  The machine asks, but the GC doesn't let.
