Topic Wiki

Open Serve: Do 1 of the following:
1) Buy a temporary card. (free in cvs in NJ won’t take cc)($3.95 fee), or
2) Open online. They’ll send you a card. (free)
Note that you COULD have more than one of these: Bluebird (BB), Redcard and serve.

Loading Serve: Serve does not have any fees to load money.
a) At CVS, 7-11, and Rite Aid ONLY CASH can be loaded.
b) At Walmart GCs …uh Debit Cards (besides Vanilla cards) can be loaded onto Serve just like onto BB. Load limit: $2500/day up to $5000/month
c) At Family Dollar max $499.99/Day, not hard coded, YMMV, Cash or Debit/Gift Card.
WARNING: There are reports of debit cards being drained at FD, and not loading onto Serve, so FD is not recommended.
d) An Amex CC of the serve cardholder can be linked and used to fund your Serve ONLINE. Load limit: $200 per day/$1000 per month
Amex cc loads are not considered cash advance. They DO NOT earn points, or count towards a spending threshold.
e) Debit Cards linked to Serve: $200/day up to 1000/month ONLINE.  But only a permanent DC with your name on it. (NOT GCs)

So your total loading limit per month, if using all 3 methods is $7K.

-Serve has a $1 monthly inactivity fee (waived in VA, NY and TX) that is waived if you use Direct Deposit OR add $500.
-If Serve has a bonus for using direct deposit, use AP.

Using the funds on Serve:
-Free ATM use/withdrawal at MoneyPass ATMs. $2 elsewhere.
-Serve has a Bill Pay feature – same as BB.  You tell them who to pay, and they send a check for you.  You can pay up to 5k of unregistered billers, but 10K of registered ones (registered= those on their bill pay list). Pay your Credit Cards bills as well as many other bills or any person!
WARNING: Do not use the bill pay feature to pay the Credit Card that is linked for online loads.
-money in your Serve account can be withdrawn directly to a linked bank account, which, if done too much, may be seen as risky by Serve, but in moderation should be fine.
Withdraw to your bank https://secure.serve.com/Actions/WithdrawMoney

Make sure the name, address and phone number on your profile match your credit card billing address, or you may get declined.  When linking your credit card at serve.com, the website will only show you the address on your profile, but not the phone number, so this is easy to overlook.  Go to profile, and check/update your phone number there.

Error likely with the Serve account:
When you create a new account and add a credit card, you will be allowed to do the first transaction. After that, your account will probably go into system lockdown until you verify some information. Likely error message for this case is "Risk declined operation" when you try to add money on to the account. You will need to send in (online, fax or mail) a photo ID and a copy of your credit card or statement. Upload your documents here -
https://secure.serve.com/User/SecureFileUpload. Then Call up AMEX Account Protection Services at 1-800-555-4318 and tell them you uploaded the documents and ask them to verify it for you.

The Serve system will stop you at $2.5k. I've tried.
It didn't stop me.

I'm sorry if I'm repeating a question already asked; but what's the limit on serve/BB loading per day per card with visa gift card?
How (and where) exactly are you loading with GCs? Online? In store? Online limit is 0. You might get one or 2 to work but then your account will probably be closed. In store there is no such thing as "loading per day per card with visa gift card." In store they only do "cash" loads, with some stores accepting 'debit' cards as 'cash.' NEVER walk into a store and say "I would like to load my card with vgc"!!

In other words, $2500 a day, $5000 a month, in stores only.

My point isn't about limits. Someone who words a question as the OP did is likely to walk into a store saying that he wants to load his cards with VGC. And, a real pet peeve of mine demonstrates that he never bothered to read serve terms/limits and fees which are clearly stated in easy to understand English.

I think the WIKI is quite outdated. If anyone can update it, it would be appreciated by many members.

I'm finally going to switch from BB to Serve. Which flavor should I get? I'm in NY so no monthly fees for me.

Would the OneVip and the green Free Reloads be the same for me, or there are other benefits to one of those cards?
I like vanilla but my name is Venilla.

I think people on this thread have said that one VIP is best for NYers

Does the oneVIP work at RA?
I'm asking because in the list that I pick from before swiping the card it says "serve free reloads" (green) card, not Stam serve.

Dan wrote on DDMS that he used his OneVip in RA.

Why wouldn't you sign up for the green, if it's free anyways?

Yes, it does. And the correct card to select is the free reloads one.

ETA: I believe it's the second choice on the list.

I have the green (yay NY!)
I got it over the VIP because at the time they were advertising more reload locations for the green then the VIP.

Ymmv even at the same location.
The system works, the clerk just need to let you try.
I've gone at night when they are bored and have been able to load

Edit to add: you can refill many types of prepaid cards at RA. In the list that they can pull up is "serve free reloads". You select that and get prompted to swipe your serve card. Then you can add up to $500 with cash or "debit" cards. All they have to do is select that you are paying with a swipe and it should go thru. Rinse & repeat.

Was just REJECTED by Rite Aid in Brooklyn on Nostrand Ave TWICE. (Last night & this late morning)

I was told by the store manager that Corporate has told them NOT to accept any more prepaid cards to load onto Serve.

Seems as if someone brought in a couple of Serve cards to load, and the store got suspicious and reported it to corporate.

I just wanted to "THANK" the gentleman who ruined this for everybody else.
Being a Chazer at everyone else's expense.

Please use your brain next time, and stay away from the other stores that accept the gift cards.
