Topic Wiki

Open Serve: Do 1 of the following:
1) Buy a temporary card. (free in cvs in NJ won’t take cc)($3.95 fee), or
2) Open online. They’ll send you a card. (free)
Note that you COULD have more than one of these: Bluebird (BB), Redcard and serve.

Loading Serve: Serve does not have any fees to load money.
a) At CVS, 7-11, and Rite Aid ONLY CASH can be loaded.
b) At Walmart GCs …uh Debit Cards (besides Vanilla cards) can be loaded onto Serve just like onto BB. Load limit: $2500/day up to $5000/month
c) At Family Dollar max $499.99/Day, not hard coded, YMMV, Cash or Debit/Gift Card.
WARNING: There are reports of debit cards being drained at FD, and not loading onto Serve, so FD is not recommended.
d) An Amex CC of the serve cardholder can be linked and used to fund your Serve ONLINE. Load limit: $200 per day/$1000 per month
Amex cc loads are not considered cash advance. They DO NOT earn points, or count towards a spending threshold.
e) Debit Cards linked to Serve: $200/day up to 1000/month ONLINE.  But only a permanent DC with your name on it. (NOT GCs)

So your total loading limit per month, if using all 3 methods is $7K.

-Serve has a $1 monthly inactivity fee (waived in VA, NY and TX) that is waived if you use Direct Deposit OR add $500.
-If Serve has a bonus for using direct deposit, use AP.

Using the funds on Serve:
-Free ATM use/withdrawal at MoneyPass ATMs. $2 elsewhere.
-Serve has a Bill Pay feature – same as BB.  You tell them who to pay, and they send a check for you.  You can pay up to 5k of unregistered billers, but 10K of registered ones (registered= those on their bill pay list). Pay your Credit Cards bills as well as many other bills or any person!
WARNING: Do not use the bill pay feature to pay the Credit Card that is linked for online loads.
-money in your Serve account can be withdrawn directly to a linked bank account, which, if done too much, may be seen as risky by Serve, but in moderation should be fine.
Withdraw to your bank https://secure.serve.com/Actions/WithdrawMoney

Make sure the name, address and phone number on your profile match your credit card billing address, or you may get declined.  When linking your credit card at serve.com, the website will only show you the address on your profile, but not the phone number, so this is easy to overlook.  Go to profile, and check/update your phone number there.

Error likely with the Serve account:
When you create a new account and add a credit card, you will be allowed to do the first transaction. After that, your account will probably go into system lockdown until you verify some information. Likely error message for this case is "Risk declined operation" when you try to add money on to the account. You will need to send in (online, fax or mail) a photo ID and a copy of your credit card or statement. Upload your documents here -
https://secure.serve.com/User/SecureFileUpload. Then Call up AMEX Account Protection Services at 1-800-555-4318 and tell them you uploaded the documents and ask them to verify it for you.

Of course you can up to 2k doesn't make a difference how many transactions.
what he meant was it has nothing to do with the license it has to do with the cc.
not understanding, if I used the same cc twice with the same license,I won't go through, if I used two different licenes it will, that's the way they trace customers

What if you use the same license with a different cc? He seems to say it would work. Are you 100% sure it won't?

I've tried it quite a few times, it didn't go, and according to his reasoning the Same cc should never work twice per 24hr period independent of the license used

Maybe it needs to be the same credit card and same license in order not to work. If the license is the same but cc different perhaps it will... I never tried that but it will be interesting to find out.

Yes . I've done same license and different cc in same day and it worked. It might be that at those times I wasn't asked to show license but two different cc's do work

I know everyone seems to be suggesting that the shutdowns may have to do with how the cards are unloaded, but I would be curious to know how people are loading.

I'm noticing that many of the people are loading at WM - even BBs and have gotten shut down.  I do know that the 2 cards that are not working for loads now were at one point loaded at WM.  The other one (that I haven't had a chance to check out) has never been loaded at WM and I haven't received an email for it.

Dan, has your card ever been loaded at WM or online?

Not the current oneVIP card.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

people keep trying to find a pattern for the shutdowns. The issue is, there isn't a pattern.

This does seem like an interesting data point to me though.

I had my serve card for a few years. No heavy abuse. Loaded at wm, fd, and ra, as well as online. Paid off Amex cc, chase and others as well as regular bills and sending checks.
Still open.

cvs systems are hard coded to scan licenses when purchasing gcs, so you definitely showed it, the only possibility is that you weren't within 24hrs of your previous purchase

CMIIW, but for any $500 loaded onto gift card they have to swipe license before card even loads. After $2k is loaded, their system won't even allow the GC to be loaded for $500  until 24 hours have passed.

OK so that explains it, they didn't scan your license.
I used to do 5k/day at CVS in the VR days, and that was a CVS limit that was per license, had nothing to do with credit cards. At the time, the system would require a license scan when you purchased 1k or more, so you could technically buy $500 at a time with no limit.
At some point, this 5k limit was lowered to 2k. I was asking if it is still 2k. It is definitely still by license and not by cc.
And by the way it isn't a rolling 24 hours at CVS, it's based on a day which has some kind of cut off from like 6-9pm. So you could buy 5k (or 2k these days, I guess) before 6 and another 2k minutes later, technically, if you knew exactly when it was. This used to be the metzias as you Yeshivish guys would say, but I assume it is still the case as well.
Thanks all!

I'm pretty sure it changed to a rolling 24 hours.
