Topic Wiki

Open Serve: Do 1 of the following:
1) Buy a temporary card. (free in cvs in NJ won’t take cc)($3.95 fee), or
2) Open online. They’ll send you a card. (free)
Note that you COULD have more than one of these: Bluebird (BB), Redcard and serve.

Loading Serve: Serve does not have any fees to load money.
a) At CVS, 7-11, and Rite Aid ONLY CASH can be loaded.
b) At Walmart GCs …uh Debit Cards (besides Vanilla cards) can be loaded onto Serve just like onto BB. Load limit: $2500/day up to $5000/month
c) At Family Dollar max $499.99/Day, not hard coded, YMMV, Cash or Debit/Gift Card.
WARNING: There are reports of debit cards being drained at FD, and not loading onto Serve, so FD is not recommended.
d) An Amex CC of the serve cardholder can be linked and used to fund your Serve ONLINE. Load limit: $200 per day/$1000 per month
Amex cc loads are not considered cash advance. They DO NOT earn points, or count towards a spending threshold.
e) Debit Cards linked to Serve: $200/day up to 1000/month ONLINE.  But only a permanent DC with your name on it. (NOT GCs)

So your total loading limit per month, if using all 3 methods is $7K.

-Serve has a $1 monthly inactivity fee (waived in VA, NY and TX) that is waived if you use Direct Deposit OR add $500.
-If Serve has a bonus for using direct deposit, use AP.

Using the funds on Serve:
-Free ATM use/withdrawal at MoneyPass ATMs. $2 elsewhere.
-Serve has a Bill Pay feature – same as BB.  You tell them who to pay, and they send a check for you.  You can pay up to 5k of unregistered billers, but 10K of registered ones (registered= those on their bill pay list). Pay your Credit Cards bills as well as many other bills or any person!
WARNING: Do not use the bill pay feature to pay the Credit Card that is linked for online loads.
-money in your Serve account can be withdrawn directly to a linked bank account, which, if done too much, may be seen as risky by Serve, but in moderation should be fine.
Withdraw to your bank https://secure.serve.com/Actions/WithdrawMoney

Make sure the name, address and phone number on your profile match your credit card billing address, or you may get declined.  When linking your credit card at serve.com, the website will only show you the address on your profile, but not the phone number, so this is easy to overlook.  Go to profile, and check/update your phone number there.

Error likely with the Serve account:
When you create a new account and add a credit card, you will be allowed to do the first transaction. After that, your account will probably go into system lockdown until you verify some information. Likely error message for this case is "Risk declined operation" when you try to add money on to the account. You will need to send in (online, fax or mail) a photo ID and a copy of your credit card or statement. Upload your documents here -
https://secure.serve.com/User/SecureFileUpload. Then Call up AMEX Account Protection Services at 1-800-555-4318 and tell them you uploaded the documents and ask them to verify it for you.

With cash, yes.
I guess not with GC. Although they do write that with a MoneyPak or VR you could do it.

Correct, but MoneyPaks and VR are also cash only at CVS.

I can still load 1k a month from CC?
How can I go about switching BB to serve?
Can amex cards be used to load these or F/R risk?

1. Yes.
2. Close the BB, open serve. You may have to wait 30 days, YMMV.

I HUCAed at least 4 times, and spoke to a supervisor. They all said I need to wait 30 days, even though others have had it done before then.

This no longer works. If you just apply for Serve you'll get denied and told you already have a Bluebird account. Per FT (and DH's experience), apply for Serve with an incorrect social security number. You'll be told the application is pending. Call Serve and they'll ask you to confirm your SSN. Submit your social security card and drivers license and they should approve you on the spot.

Get an extra boost for being a customer. After you use your American Express Serve® Card to spend $20 or more in one purchase between May 19 and May 31, you can get a $5 statement credit to your Account. It's that easy!
Limited time offer: Expires May 31, 2014
Whether you're at the mall, the grocery store, or your favorite restaurant, you can use your Card to shop in stores and online virtually anywhere American Express® Cards are accepted

OK gonna switch my BB to serve. Read the FT wiki on serve - it's pretty comprehensive. My question is, if I load serve with 1k/month with cc what are my options for unloading? I think I can pay CC bill via serve, is that a red flag? Is it better to unload into checking account (capone360)? Which of the two of these are less likely to cause red flags? Thanks peepz  :D

IME, the best way to unload is first make a small spend and then unload to bank. Before I started doing it like this I would get an automatic freeze on my account.

I have serve with ISIS, but I originally singed up this way I never had serve without ISIS.

I did read somewhere on FT that in order to have the benefits of ISIS Serve if you already have a serve account, you have to close it down and then open a new Serve account through the ISIS app.

Nope cause it doesn't have NFC, you need to buy a $70 case called a 'cash wrap' that will allow you to use ISIS. The case IMO is ugly an bulky not ideal for iPhone users...

Noted.
Huh? Loading a serve at walmart? I'm talking about loading it with a CC (I presume its online). U cant have BB and serve so what are you talking about?

IME, the best way to unload is first make a small spend and then unload to bank. Before I started doing it like this I would get an automatic freeze on my account.

Cool. So use serve as debit card for a small purchase- then u can wire directly to bank account (no need for writing checks to other people and having them deposit it for u right?)

Is anyone able to speak to whether paying another CC bill VERSUS unloading to a bank account is less likely for a flag/considered abuse?

once a small purchase clears you can transfer directly to your bank.
