Chase Sapphire Reserve BENEFITS master thread

5/24 applies to this card
Minimum $10K of CL is needed, so if you can't get 10K on an instant, there's another great reason to get declined

DansDeals.com » Blog Archive » Chase Sapphire Reserve Additional User Benefits And Lounge Guesting Policy Are Awesome!

There are multiple instances reported on this very thread of someone who was way over 5/24 and did not have PC and who got approval after recon.

The information below no longer applies for 2016/2017 but should still be useful for 2017/2018

Can you still get a 2016 travel credit if you apply now for a Sapphire Reserve card?

People have been reporting various due dates in January. If you get a due date between the 6th to the 25th then your bill will close between December 9th-28th and you will have time to spend the $300 in 2016 travel credit.

It is definitely still possible to get those due dates, but there’s no guarantee. If you do apply then be sure to call reconsideration to see if you can get approved today.
You may also be able to change your payment due date to generate a December statement if your due date is earlier than January 6 or later than January 25th. Just call to have you due date changed to January 25th to have your statement close on December 28th.

From here. Hopefully this will stop the constant questions.

Only?
The Platinum lounge network outclasses the Reserve's by a large margin.
For spending in most categories the Freedom Unlimited or Everyday Preferred is still the way to go.

Personally, I don't use Priority Pass. In nearly half a million miles traveled in the last 4 or 5 years, I think I've used PP's lounge network a grand total of... once. And I have a hunch most of the Plat members don't get much use out of PP. (And, yes, I'd rather have 3x on dining and travel and primary collision than have access to the Centurion lounges.)

I'm simply comparing Plat to its counterparts, Prestige and Reserve. I'm not disputing that it may be better to also include a FU or EDP in one's spending portfolio.

Any ideas on what the minimum credit limit will be?
$5,000?
I haven't seen any approvals under $10k. I was approved for $10k and $15k.

Income-cl ratio sounds like ur good (40%)
This is what I was looking for. I wasn't sure if there was a number out there.

But..

I applied for multiple cards a few months ago and they only approved the second card by shifting $5k from the first one opened does this imply that I reached my limit with them or just that they don't want to do too much new credit at one time?

It's more than just Centurion.
It's also Airspace, Delta, etc.

It's also hard to compete with AMEX return protection, lost item protection, etc.

But yes, the earning system is totally outclassed. But AMEX never seemed to care about that much for Plat.

Too much new credit. If ur looking for instant approval then maybe risk lowering one of ur cl's. If u wanna do recon, then having that cl to shift is better. Ur call

Customer service...
I'll go out on a limb to say that amex customer service flat out sucks recently. They've recently fired hundreds of american CSRs and outsoutced those jobs to India, so it's only gonna get worse.

Too much new credit.

Would that still affect me 4 to 5 months later?

If ur looking for instant approval then maybe risk lowering one of ur cl's.

I would cancel the BA but it's only been 4 to 5 months. Any repercussions?

Come on, someone who is dropping 1m/month is likely using amex black.
The amex black is an expensive card to pay the extra $2050 over the platinum, considering the limited additional benefits it offers.

Even rich people don't like feeling like suckers.

1) & sometimes it does ..

2) some black card holders just dint care for this stuff . (And honestly , If I were in their position I don't think I'd care  either)

I haven't found Chase employees to be so bad.

I'll be honest with you; the only numbers I call are the numbers on the back of the CSP about credit cards (except about business cards), and the back of the CPC debit card about banking issues. No hold time, competent reps, and I've found them to be polite.

Ouch.

To be honest, I don't care about the nationality of the representative in the slightest. I don't find that they're well trained, conversant in English, or empowered to take action about anything. Everything is the system with amex; they're just reading off a screen what the system spits back. (Of course we've all taken tremendous advantage of that, but for your average customer I'd assume they'd prefer a competent agent that comprehends their issues and has the authority and tools to solve them)

Good point. I find that the Indians are very respectful and helpful, however their capabilities are somewhat limited, so it can be frustrating...
BTW, I know we're not allowed to call Native Americans Indians anymore, but are we also not allowed to call Indians Indians? :)

Who cares where they're from? Have you ever tried to dispute a charge or use return protection with AMEX and with Chase?

I'm referring to this
Quote
Except that some cards do contain language in their terms and conditions if you cancel within the first 6 months of cardmembership the bank may claw back the signup bonus.

This is very rare. There are very occasional reports of this, almost akin to urban legends. But it’s advisable not to cancel a new card within 6 months for this reason.
