Is there any way to use the points to get cash back at the same value as if you were redeeming it for travel (Besides the refundable airline tickets)?
Can I buy Amazon gift cards from the MileagePlusX app and then get it refunded as "travel"?

1) Book a refundable flight
2)wait for it to post
3) redeem your points towards the flight
4) you will then get a statement credit on your account
5) cancel the flight
6) you will now have whatever credit U redeemed in your account
7) yes it's not physical cash but that's your option if you have no travel credits on your account.

Am I able to request a check from Barclay for the travel credit instead of the statement credit?

Not sure about their policy. Other banks allow it. U can test it out. Make a payment so that your balance will be positive and then call them up and request a check and see what they say
