Amblyopia / lazy eye treatments?
« on: November 26, 2016, 10:59:42 PM »
Standard treatment is to patch one eye for 3 hrs a day for a year.

There is lots of discussion about special video games with red/green glasses that fix the problem in a couple of weeks.

Does anyone have experience or more info on this topic?

My father deals with this often on children, I think there's some kind of exercises behavioral optometrists do. (I think that's the name).
I'll try to ask
I don't sin, I give myself opportunities to repent.

My son had it, his ophthalmologist didn't seem to think that these games really work, at least not on cases like y son who had a pretty severe case. They tried patching but it didn't work and eventually he ended up having the surgery. BH he's fine now.
My MIL also has it and she wears special prism glasses that seem to help.

Patching wasn't effective, or patching was too much of a pain?

  • Location: The value of a forum such as this one is not in that one can post a question and receive an answer, but in that the question has most likely been asked before, and the answer is available to him that will but only use the search function.
  • Programs: 1. Search on google. 2. Search in the right board of DDF with a general word or two. 3. Read the wiki. 4. Read the thread. 5. Ask away.

I just want to point out the crucial difference between an
ophthalmologist
and an
optometrists

Please only use an ophthalmologist for pretty much anything past getting glasses.

First hand experience with some top doctors. Patch will most likely not help. Prism glasses helps alot more.  But many times surgery is needed

Wasn't effective

I had a similar experience a few years ago with my 3 year old. Patching wasn't effective. We ended up doing surgery with Dr. Mills in CHOP. Went well BH.
