Amex not receiving check

I had this with Citi recently and it turned out they had deposited the check within a few days of my mailing it, though it took a month for them to dig it up. Ask whoever wrote the check for you to check on his end if it was deposited. If it wasn't, stop the check and mail out a new one asap, and ask Amex to put a note on your account that you are doing this and that if they happen to receive/find the check they should not deposit it

Interesting, though I can't imagine that putting a note on the account will help Amex not deposit it...

No, but bigger chance of having them not charge / reimburse you for the bounced check fee.. "I told you to not deposit it, it's even in the notes."

Do it over chat or SM so you have record of it.

right, but won't help for the not getting approved within 30 days of a check bouncing, which is what I'm worried about.

3rd party just received the check back B"H, Amex claims there was no account number with the check, I sent it with the payment coupon...

Best possible outcome though B'H!

They might process these payments using a machine which for whatever reason didn't pick up the payment coupon.

I've done it before though, who knows...
