Tuna steaks.Pet peeve alert: There are parts that are supposed to be removed before it's sold in stores. Well, not my store...
Shoprite sells Cape Gourmet Frozen Tuna steaks - they are sushi grade quality and quite delicious without any parts that are supposed to be removed. This week they are on special - 2lb package for 17.98. OU.

hey i know this guy we went to same high school. whats with the twitter name? does he always posts pics of signs is that his thing?
The tuna I bought was 7.99 per pound. But alas, after taking off the extras, it's not so cheap. Not sure if I'm comfortable with Shop Rite, though, from a kashrus perspective. I may be naive, but I feel more comfortable buying from a Jewish store.
The tuna is in a bag that is self sealed and sitting in the freezer section (like frozen french fries). Do you not feel comfortable buying anything in Shoprite?
Was it packaged in Shoprite? Or was it brought in straight for a plant? Because I would eat the latter, but not as comfortable with the former.
I can't tell if you are kidding around or being serious, but here is a picture from a different supermarket sitehttps://www.priceritemarketplace.com/sm/planning/rsid/425/product/ahi-tuna-steaks-00689076542517
I'm being serious. I don't feel comfortable when a non-Jewish staff is cutting and packaging my food without any supervision. Again, I may be naive, as the plant may be the same way, but in a store, I can see it and it makes me uncomfortable. Thanks for the picture.
To get into the halacha of this, if you can ensure it is truly a kosher fish, then it is no different than buying an apple unless there is a concern about using a dirty knife. If there is such a concern it is often fixable by properly washing it.
I agree with you wholeheartedly about not wanting to but items that arrive kosher at the supermarket and then were opened and repackaged, but when I said that it was self sealed in the freezer section like frozen french fries, what did you think I meant? They don't repack frozen french fries.
