Why does cold showers have to be uncomfortable? Had to change my daughters brakes today and the cold shower afterwards felt great.
In today's weather 100+ degrees, I agree with you!

Wasn't that hot for me (90+) but I needed that cold shower to cool down. I was going to jump in the pool but that was 83.  >:(

Funny you should post that. While you are incorrect today that won't be the case in the near future.  :)

That back in the day people bathed in the rivers etc or had home baths that required heating up water etc and it was certainly not the norm to bathe and less so with hot water which was unheard of in the summer months one would assume.

Thus hot water bathing was more likely associated with a turkish bath.. like a spa sense or bathing in hot springs etc

Also we dont bathe due to sakana no?

Any ways, no meat and no wine during 9 days is brutal enough for me..

how can you -1 an opinion?
I'm also saying my opinion. Everyone's entitled to their opinion. I didnt feel I needed to write it out. In my opinion not taking a shower is much harder.

Sure, but I'm not going to express my displeasure at what I perceive is those that chest by making a siyum to eat meat, no one needs to eat meat, it's a bigger teiyvah than showering which is a need.

Till are as well other links to refraining from eating wine and meat, ein simcha ela b'basar vyayin. Also a major rabbinic and karaite disputation involved drinking wine after churban bayis sheini

The siyum comes with finishing a mesechta. Thats why it was  recommended vs. Shower that is for pleasure purposes only

The siyum comes with finishing a mesechta. Thats why it was  recommended vs. Shower that is for pleasure purposes only

And yet those that make a siyum only to be able top eat meat and drink wine, is in my opinion wholly shallow.

There are reasons we make a siyum as chabad does daily in the 9 days, see netta gavriel etc

There were no showers in the days the shulchan aruch was written, so bathing then meant going to a river or sprint or a bath house..

Today's showers are akin to days past where people washed their face and hair in the morning. A shower is not a pleasure for those that shower daily.. well maybe for JTZ having his SI with him that holds true.
