Having gone there last year I would highly highly recommend staying in Yosemite National Park there are some very decently priced (from $150-200) nice looking hotels in the park. I would advise staying in Yosemite Valley as its centrally located in the park and it has the nicest hotels/lodges (I can not vouch for all the ones not in the valley however do not book Wawona hotel it looked old and decrepit last year). You can book athttps://www.nationalparkreservations.com/ but make sure you are booking ones in the park preferably in the valley, not the ones right at the park entrance. As for hotels out of the park the ones right out of the park entrances are nothing to nice nor much cheaper then the ones in the park, for all chain hotels they are all a hour plus drive away from the entrances to the park and driving in the park from point to point takes plenty of time as the speed limit is 25-35 mph. I stayed in a Fairfield Inn in Kingsburg last year (there are other chain hotels in Fresno) and ate myself up that I did not stay in the park bec I drove 2 and a half to 3 hours each day. Feel free to ask me any other questions you have I also went to Sequoia National Park last year.

How close? I think it's an hour no?  Gan Isreal west (overnight camp) is about an hour from Yosemite and bass lake is 5 minutes from there

Iirc Gan Israel west is ~45 min from Yosemite.
Eta: bass lake is in between Gan Israel west and yosemite.
