Nice size home.  :)
Price I was quoted was for a 2.5 ton AC and 75k btu furnace.
It's 2k square ft home.

Not sure how they are selling for so low. Equip price from the distributor for an brand name i.e. Armstrong for a 16 seer, 90% +, two stage AH+furnace is going to cost the HVAC contractor in the 2.5k range (Approx 300 for the coil, 1200 for the condenser, 900 for the furnace, 350 for line-sets and expansion valve) and that doesn't include the labor.

For a decent 90+ efficient unit 6k is reasonable for labor, equipment and install.
Quote I got is for a Goodman 13 seer, that any good?

That is not my experience. They are 2 totally separate units that are independent of each other. The parts are sold separately and the labor involved is mostly separate as well. The only real overlap is the refrigerant.

If it is a very old unit which needs retrofitting then maybe.
Yes they are totally separate units but the compressor unit is most of the cost. I can change out my A-coil in less than hour if I had to.

It is an old unit, pretty sure it's over 25 yrs old. Hvac guy told me the units need to match.
Yes they need to match. If it is that old you should go with a new system. How old is your furnace?

It's 2k square ft home.
He wants to install a 5 ton unit?
I have 2.5k square ft and have two units. A 2 ton and a 1.5 ton.

Planning on adding on to the house? When I put on an addition I added a unit. Works much better that way.

Would never recoup my money from a 16 seer. The quotes were for a 14 seer.

That's because you have two systems. ;) Next time go with one system and zoning will save you on energy costs significantly.

Did your contractor run a load calc? 5 tons of cooling is a lot for 2k sqft. Make sure your getting two stage equipment with a modulating blower otherwise your going to run into over-conditioning issues which can balloon into a host of unforeseen problems.

So my Cental stopped blowing cold air. Period. It blows warm air and it seems to me that it's not full blast either.

I checked the outside unit and it seems to be working fine.

Any ideas?

(Can it be the thermostat?)
