This is a 4" ac ceiling diffuser, drywall guy did a sloppy job, is there some kind of product I can easily install between the diffuser and the ceiling to cover up the hole instead of patching the drywall?

Yes, it is a furnace. A tech I called down told me the issue is the control board got water damaged, wanted $600 to replace. I can also see some water damage on the board itself.

How did it get water damaged? Condensation from not changing the filter?

I would patch it as it is a simple fix.

You can use drywall compound but depending how Bbg the space is you should use some type of mesh for strength.

You can use 'tape' like you put over seams between drywall.

You can back fill with liquid foam (great stuff). The tape or mesh will give it more strength.
If you decide to go this route, put the compound on in layers.

Not sure, the whole furnace was full of water way above the control board. I drilled a hole on the bottom for the water to drain.

Any HVAC experts here that would know if a standard home forced-air-heat furnace requires a vent pipe to fresh air (more specifically - the room in which it's contained)?

Note, I'm not referring to the flue pipe which goes to the chimney. I'm asking besides for the flue pipe which goes to a chimney, is there any need for fresh air in the room with this furnace?
I see there's a "fresh air inlet" in the image I attached. But I'm unsure what that's about, and the manual doesn't expound on it (nor give any "warnings" about it).  As you can see in the top image, the "return" is on the side where there's supposed to be some sort of filter perhaps, so that has nothing to do with this "fresh air inlet".

I'd appreciate if anyone who's knowledgeable in this field can answer this question.

It is house dependent with that type of furnace. You need enough fresh air for proper combustion and still not affect your air quality.

it's for combustion air, and yes the room needs to either, be a certain size, or be connected via vents to a room that is big enough, or have a vent to outside to bring fresh air in (it may not have to be hooked up directly to the furnace)

side note, in my opinion even if the room is big enough houses today are often built too airtight to not have a vent to outside, so i think a (powered) direct vent (2 pipes 1 fresh air for combustion and 1 for exhaust) is the best option.

This has a flue, so it takes care of the exhaust pipe.

My concern is back drafting, a natural draft flue is bad in a tight house. A power vent is better (which i think this system has, and direct vent is best.
