Best way to book a o/w TLV-NYC
« on: August 16, 2016, 01:06:43 PM »
My son is coming back from Yeshiva in Eretz Yisroel with no plans to go back there.

I am looking for the most cost efficient way to bring him back home.

I have about 36k AA miles which I would love to burn, but they charge a hefty close-in fee. I also have around same amount of Avios, but I think those might have other uses.

Looking to fly TLV-NYC anytime August 28th an on (flexible dates). I saw a sub $600 o/w fares on Norwegian or slightly above that on Ukraine Air. Further out there are deals on AZAL for sub $500.

He might be carrying some weight with Seforim coming back home, but if that's a deal breaker we can have other people bring them for him over time.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

I saw that, but I'm not sure how good a value that is. I think I'd rather use my FB for J tickets or for itineraries with lower YQ

That's nothing to do with what you are looking to get now, Amex is worth 1.4, 25K=$350+$145=$495, or use Citi it should be even a little less.
Open a FB account in the name of the CC holder and you are good to go

PS (Ukraine) fare is around $660 from OTA. Booking class is P which earns 110% FB points, so I guess it will earn approximately 6000 FB points, + 1980 TYP on Citi Premier card. Might just add some value to existing small balance on FB account.

Interestingly, Delta.com is showing saver aware availability on SU, but when I search for it (even segment by segment) on FB it doesn't show up.

TLV-SVO shows SU
SVO-JFK not showing (I believe I have seen it in the past, though I have booked JFK-SVO-TLV by calling them, JFK-SVO was on DL).

My point was, it never shows SU as an option when searching TLV-NYC or vice versa.

True. But I wonder why it's not showing when searching SVO-JFK, whereas Delta.com is showing it even on a TLV-JFK search.

FB is showing SU on TLV-SVO route.

Either way YQ is very high with SU.
Azal is cheapest for extra baggage. Official price (in addition to 2 free bags) is $65 per bag (unlimited). Though friends who recently flew JFK - TLV (don't know if it's the same TLV - JFK) reported that the airport agent charged ONLY $30 for each additional bag UNLIMITED!

On SVO-TLV YQ is very low.

And where exactly does that get you?

Occasionally I've seen DL space between JFK and SVO...
