So i upgraded to platinum for the second time bec of a targeted email. They refuse to honor it bec they said i already upgraded once before. Now they are saying that I will be charged a prorated amount for the 3 weeks I had the platinum and will still be charged 175 fee for amex gold. Is this true or did this rep have no clue what she was talkin about (though live chat)?

I just applied for the BGR with the 50k offer. If my goal is to keep one MR account open and maximize miles, why would I upgrade the BGR to a Plat rather than close the BGR and open up a Personal or MB Plat? The MB Plat has a 50k offer right now and would start the clock on the 12 month cycle. Unless you plan on keeping a Plat card open at all times (for the benefits), it seems to me the best churn/alternating approach is to keep the BGR until you want to sign up for a Plat offer (whether it's the MB 50k or hold out for a better one in the future), since the 50k MR beats the 25k upgrade offer.

It just looks to me like a 25k sign-up bonus for the $450 annual fee, albeit with no credit pull. Am I missing something?

I just did the PGGM and the EC charges posted and I just got refunded immediately. Will that count for the spend necessary to get the 25k for upgrading to the plat?

I see that I was charged 187.50 for the platinum annual fee after upgrading from business gold... Has this happened to anyone? what is going on?

Happens to everyone. Need to downgrade back to Gold or close the card - within 60 days - and you'll get refunded

That is smart, and then downgrade or close it to get prorated (ull get most of it back).

I actually think it has to do with when you opened the gold card. As of now there is less than 1/2 a year left until the anniversary of the card- is this correct? If there is more than half a year, you got lucky!

After a nice chat on the phone with a manager- I got the plat card for free for the first year!
Now I get another $200 in January and they threw in $100 for my inconvenience dealing with them!
$500 and 25k miles for upgrading is not too shabby!

When did you call about your first year free? Was it after the charge had posted?

Yes. They accidentally sent me a paper with the card saying the first year was free. It was a mistake and they did not want to honor it, but when I told them I wanted to cancel my gold card if I downgraded they said they would give me the first year free.

Has anyone had success upgrading a SECOND time from Green to Plat (after upgrading from Gold to PLat and then downgrading to Green) using the upgrade link in the wiki and receiving the 25K?
