The cheshbon is that you upgrade, get the points, buy the AA GC's do the Platinum Guy's Great Mehalech, then downgrade back or close and get the Annual Fee of the Plat reimbursed. If cancelled within 60 days you get it all back; if more than 60 days it is prorated.

-1 YMMV I wasn't. They just charge you the prorated amount for the Platinum.

I am getting the gold card soon, would want to upgrade before the end of the year for the extra $200 credit...
Will  I be forfeiting the bonus points from the Gold?

I should get the card within the next few days.. it take a couple days to spend 10k in target.
If I upgrade in two weeks even I should get the card before the EOY.

That is a good idea, just get the points in the pending section.

If I am not able to make the spend in two weeks Ill ask amex

If you actually see it pending, then I very much doubt it. You can definitely SM them to have it clear methinks.

I actually had a chat with an agent that claimed, I wouldn't be able to upgrade until I had the card for 12 month.

For the record, apparently it wasn't as stupid a question as I thought. Just got charged AF for the platinum card and received a refund for the time that has passed since I paid the AF on the BRG so the year of membership with the card continues seamlessly from the gold card just that the monthly rate increases for the rest of the year.

Gonna downgrade to green as soon as my Jan PGGM credit posts and will Bez"h be was ahead of the two months of AF I paid for the privilege.

does anyone know if the $200 ariline credit would work towards the $100 Global Entry fee?
