The cheshbon is that you upgrade, get the points, buy the AA GC's do the Platinum Guy's Great Mehalech, then downgrade back or close and get the Annual Fee of the Plat reimbursed. If cancelled within 60 days you get it all back; if more than 60 days it is prorated.

similar question: anyone ever get shut down for upgrading and downgrading accts too often? do they really care? are they monitoring to see this activity, namely that a cardholder double dips on 200annual credit and then downgrades, or uses other benifits and downgrades to save by only paying pro-rated AF? then upgrades again for lounge access before a trip....
