You're suggesting it's a coincidence?
Then why use a proprietary standard on their airpods? and why charge $9 for a lightning-to-headphone-jack adapter? and $49 for a stupid "dock" so you can charge and listen at the same time?
Yes it's a coincidence that Apple has been releasing wireless headphones under their Beats brand for many years.
Honestly I think Apple was trying to shift some of the negative attention of the inconvenience of using wired headphones so they released their own version of wireless to deflect that.
Explain what is proprietary about the airpods? Bluetooth is proprietary standard that no one can use? Also airpods work with all bluetooth devices. I think you read up the anti-Apple comments on some site and haven't got the chance to analyze it rationally.
$9 for an adapter - that comes included for free. (Anti-apple commenters ignore that little fact.)
And it will be available from 3rd parties for cheaper.
As to the charging-while-listening complaints, that's the biggest and IMHO only serious issue with removing the jack.
But I can guarantee that cheaper options than the $49 dock will pop up for $10 or less within the next month or so.
