My sister got sick on a trip to israel, booked with UR from CSR. The benefits rep told us they would only refund the change fee charged by the airline, to change her return, not the difference in fare. Anyone know if that is the case. (They also could not tell me what the unused portion of her roundtrip ticket was.)

I know regular trip insurance will cover. I just had to change a trip for medical reasons and my insurance, Travel Insured, covered the whole thing, including the fare increase.

IINM, Chases policy, is they'll refund you which effectively paying for the new flight, without the fare increase.

meaning a rt ticket was lt's say $900/ 60,000 ur points. jfk-tlv tlv jfk. my sister flew the first leg. then got sick in tlv. I assume they will not refund $900, but how much DO they refund?

I'd assume whatever part can't be completed.

I called them they were
a) un helpful
b) said they only pay change fee, not fare difference ( which is what I was trying to verify)
c) could not tell me what unused portion of flight was valued (or if they would refund it)
d)all of the above

A. Know your info, have them do it for you, ask facts only.
B. Makes perfect sense, as I explained.
C. Get the necessary papers, and have them refund the what the second half costed.

They'll refund the cost of second leg, $450. If unused.
Not sure how they work with UR, but if you paid full amount with CC they should refund you in full the second leg.

If the total cost was $900, they'll split the fare, unless bought 2 one way tickets.

If you decide not to use that ticket they'll probably pay you the full amount of the second leg, first they'll only pay you changing fee, after a year if the ticket is unused they'll refund the difference, if you just change the ticket they'll only pay the changing fee.

in any case, my sister just flu back with strep (after a 50 shekel diagnoses and medication), rather than bothering.
I am still curious as I am flying on cheap revenue with UR in a couple of weeks with kids, and am trying to decide if I need additional travel insurance

Really depends on what you are concerned about. And how much you are concerned about that. (Same with the health insurance)
