I've used other forums that have a reputation system. There's a small +/- on each post and anyone can do it. It's similar to liking but I like that better.

If anything I'd remove the ability to like a thread on the thread view page because the button seems obtrusive to me.

I dislike them. It makes the page look choppy and piecemeal.
