Compared to what we had before, I'd say there were revolutionary and pretty darn amazing, y'know compared to car phones :P

Of course they changed the world, but there was nothing enjoyable about them. They were as fun as a calculator.
You made a phone call and that's it. Texting was a pain. Every few years a major new feature was released like BLUETOOTH! and milked to death. The phone companies had full control of the phone market so every feature upgrade was stretched out to maximize profits and every phone came preloaded with the networks garbage.

Samsung alias 2.
Full keypad, and flip it the other way to have a regular flip phone. Had that for years

Still do. Had it since '09. Not sure he'll make it the full decade but 7+ years ain't bad.

LOL.
There was just as much excitement about new phones in the aughts as there is today.
First color phone, first palm phone, first clamshell palm phone, first phone with a camera that plugged into it, first intergrated camera phone, first 3G phone, skinniest phone, etc, etc.

I know there was all this manufactured hype but I never bought into it.
Those features you mention are all minuscule feature upgrades that the phone companies convinced you to be excited about.

Think about this.
The RAZR was one of the best selling phones in 2006.
The iPhone was released in mid-2007.
They are about 2 decades apart in terms of technology.

Dumb phones were terrible for way too long and it didn't take a techie to realize it.

No mention of the v60? Either that or the startac.
But age plays a huge factor here.

I don't know how old you are, but even today, your average <14 year old doesn't get excited by new phone releases.

You are rewriting history. It's like saying before jet planes there was nothing exciting in aviation.

I wasn't the average 14 year old. And you can claim to know what I thought in the past but you are so wrong. My family had the latest cellphones/car phones since the 80's. I am very familiar with the Startac, the Nokia brick and all the garbage phone companies put out like the v60/66 and the RAZR. I always believed the companies lacked innovation and it was 100% true. If you knew anything about tech at the time, you'd know that phone tech was severely deficient in the 2000's.

But I agree that there's not much excitement nowadays.

The history of cell phones-

Early 90's- Wow cell phones are so convenient! You can make phone calls from anywhere!

Mid 90's through mid-2007- You can still make phone calls from anywhere!

Mid-2007 through 2012- Wow you can play music, watch movies, browse the web in a normal browser, play unreal games, download powerful apps, take amazing pictures that replace point and shoot cameras, enjoy humongous multi-touch displays!

2013 until the present- Okay you've made it slimmer, a little more powerful, a better camera, and the battery a bit better, but what makes this so much better than the previous iPhone/Galaxy/Moto etc?

You left out simple web browsing and opera mini, flip camera phones, texting, simpler apps, BlackBerries and more. Much of smartphone technology was dependent on faster data connections and processor speeds.

That's why you would buy outside of USA. There were watch phones, and touch screens in the early 2000s. If you follow Asia's technology, you won't find such a lag from the 90's to 2007.
