File Recovery
« on: November 05, 2008, 07:36:24 AM »
Last night I needed to reinstall Windows xp due to a trojan (great work AVG, Kaspersky got it but the damage was done). As I was about to restore my old files, I saw that some did not backup properly, although I had checked them first but something happened to them. I see that there are many programs online touting their ability to recover them. It should be easier since I haven't yet installed anything. Do any of you have experience with any of these programs? What is my best bet to get them back?

try 'PC Inspector File Recovery'. It's free. (google it) they recommend you install it on a different computer than the one your trying to recover the info from.

When searching, you need to look for programs that look for RAW data.

Can take by a hard disk, easily a few days.

The smaller the file, the more chance to recover it.

Definitely try to do the least possible installing of programs, copying of files, and for sure not defragmantation, as they kill your last chance.

There is no differentiation of who deleted something and little in the way of when either. You will also likely find numerous versions of the same file since many programs do not edit the existing file but save a new one and delete the old one.
