So El Al just added a flight (operated by Hi Fly). LY 21 departing TLV tom night 10:45pm and returning from JFK (as LY 22) motzei Yom Kippur at 1:55am. Nice move (a bit late though...)!
I don't understand, why don't they operate this flight in reverse?
The demand was for the motzai YK flight. There are also people that want to come home for succos. They have to get the plane to JFK somehow. The urgency wasn't finding a flight back after YT; it was replacing the motzai YK flight in the small window available that didn't leave many options.
+1The outbound flight is quite empty. They're making it all up on the return flight.
Is Do-All coordinating with them to transfer the manifest?
Id say that at this point all who were booked have made other arrangements for chag.
Interesting to point out that this whole scenario, is unique to this year. Say next year where Yom Kippur is on shabbos there will be much less pressure on air travel, as you get full week before Yom Kippur and 3-4 days after.
Last year was the same.
