You could try to act dumb.
And say I was sure I booked automatic.
The checkbox for automatic kept on unchecking.
Not kidding.
If they insist, you say okay, I'm not sure I can drive with my license that car (manual). I'll practice in the car park, hopefully I don't do damage.

It's prepaid, but should be fully refundable.
Obviously, supposedly the price was about the same for either transmission.

If they compare the difference in price between automatic and short while you are there, you have to make it clear that at the time there was almost no difference....
