It's not an official benefit.
I've rented dozens of times in the US/Canada and never not had it though.

one more question. for the delivery of the car within 25 miles that are only with "participating locations", do airport locations usually participate in general, or specifically LAX?
or any other la area location?

I've never had a problem as long as you call the CHM desk in advance.

This CHM thing is kinda tempting...

Does anybody know what the availability is like in general as far as big SUV's go?

what are the chances of me getting an escalade or loaded suburban or expedition when I want to rent?

If they have it you can get it.
I've seen suburbans/expeditions before, just never really needed one.

Never got in one of the big gas guzzlers.
You can always go to the Avis lot at your local airport and check it out though.
The Caddys and Infinitis are usually nicely loaded.

(besides, Caddys & Infinities are not exactly known for fuel efficiency)

I was just thinking into it a bit more and I realized I've never been able to book one of these in NYC (at least not in the last few years)
I just looked at avis.com and by JFK it says "CAR NOT OFFERED AT THIS LOCATION" although I am seeing it by EWR now -although in the past I seem to remember getting the "not offered" message there as well... (do you think they'll have a problem delivering cars EWR to CH? believe it or not it is under 25 miles)
seems like the odds are probably not in my favor...


Bichlal, do you think I actually have a realistic chances of actually getting it (CHM) if I do decide to go for it? or am I really just wasting time thinking about it?

If EWR is within 25 miles of the dropoff point they should do it, but then again I'm used to dealing with midwest folks.  With NY folks IME all bets are off when it comes to "customer service"...

But I have had better experiences at Avis EWR than Avis LGA.

I don't think you will have any problem buying CHM if you are online at noon.

EWR > Brooklyn is not exactly your typical 20 miles, if ever they'd be justified in not going 25 miles this is probably it.

A couple of years ago it would've been a no-brainer for me. But now, not so much.
