You don't need SS when adding over phone and my birthday is April 2 1988.

Maybe you can try giving it, but IME they do ask for it.

And you answer that you don't have it with you at the moment and you'll call back later to add it.

And they answer, Ok will send you the card, but in order to activate it will need the SS. Again this was IME.

+1 When I activated other 3 cards I  didn't want to give SS but only set up PINS like I did on their other cards. They wouldn't let. I figured a way around to get my 17 yr. old GE.

Is it just a myth? Can you use a CC without activating it?  ???

Got this email today

Dear NEXUS Member,

Please be advised that, in an effort to improve the NEXUS program, the kiosks currently available in the U.S. pre-clearance areas at Canadian airports are being replaced with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Global Entry (GE) kiosks. Global Entry is a U.S. domestic trusted traveller program that offers expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk members. NEXUS members receive Global Entry benefits automatically, at no additional cost, and have access to the GE automated kiosks for entry into the U.S. at participating airports.

Expedited passage at a GE kiosk requires the NEXUS member to have their 10 fingerprints on file. If you have not already submitted your 10 prints, please visit a NEXUS or Global Entry (GE) Enrolment Center to have your fingerprints taken. An appointment is not necessary. If your fingerprints are not on file, you may still use the GE kiosk; however you will be referred to a CBP officer for additional verification.

Members entering into the United States, from Canada, can use either their NEXUS card or their registered passport at any of the eight international airports that offer US preclearance. In order to use the GE kiosks located within the United States, NEXUS members must have a valid registered passport on file. To update your passport information on line, please log into your Global Online Enrollment System (GOES) account at https://goes-app.cbp.dhs.gov/main/goes.

For additional information on the Global Entry program and more details on how to use the GE kiosk, please visit http://www.cbp.gov/travel/trusted-traveler-programs/global-entry.

To me it seems like a change for the good.

Many of us have GE from Amex plat,  and now we can use it at that border.

And it's an email that he got.

Totally not.
At the Canadian airports there BOTH the Nexus AND Global Entry machines.

They are now removing all the Nexus machines, and will only use GE.

Nexus needed the Nexus Card, plus a nexus form to use, when GE uses your passport and finger prints.

Applying for my baby. The Global Entry has a list of approved documents, one of them being a birth certificate. I use that one and put in info. Then it demands an approved document from a drop down list and the only options are neutralization stuff etc or a passport.

(If you just use a passport then you can fill in passport on next screen. If you must in fact put in a passport, what is the point in having a birth certificate as a choice of approved documents?)

Just recently applied for babies passport so will be a little while until it arrives. Would like to apply using birth certificate, wait till it arrives (must mail it out to get a passport, comes back in the mail) so that will be ready for appointment when birth certificate comes in mail. Seems like I just need to wait for passport. Does anyone know? thanks
