You can use a passport for both. No need to bring the birth certificate.
Sorry for being unclear. I would gladly use my kids passport. He doesn't have one yet. We ordered one last week. Should have it in a few weeks. First time you get a passport (like for a baby) you need to send them his/her birth certificate. So that's out too.
Anyway, when applying for global entry, one of the documents that can be used is a birth certificate. So I chose that one. (obviously, you then must bring that document in, and I wont get it back for a while, but it takes time for g.e. to approve you, so by the time I get the birth certificate back, I should be ready to go to the appointment)
But whats weird is that after putting in the birth certificate info, it demands one of a few documents. A passport or some other stuff (we dont have). So if after using a birth certificate, you anyhow need to use a passport, then whats the point of a birth certificate? If you use a passport, nothing else is needed.
I spoke to a rep who says I need a passport but should call hotline (866-530-4172. 19 callers ahead of me, at least half hour wait
) I guess I will just wait for the new passport to arrive and then apply. Not sure why birth certificate is an option.
