Any reason to change Maiden Name on Passport?
« on: September 18, 2016, 04:33:37 PM »
My wife's passport expires in 7 years. Any reason to pay the $110 to change the name from her maiden name to married name?

If it makes a difference, I plan on getting her Global Entry which you have to put in your license info, and her license has already been updated to her married name. Don't know if that''ll stop the app from going though.

I just got my wife a new passport last week after almost 8 years of marriage.
No need to get a new one.

Congrats! ;D

And should be no issue with global entry application?

Also just curious - When you booked her tickets, did you do it under her maiden or married name?

Just don't forget which name to use when booking airline tickets (married for domestic and maiden for international) for simplicity sake.

No issue with GE. Her license is in her married name.
Booked tickets in her maiden name. Now I need to change over all of her FFNs to marriage name.

Always used maiden and used PP for ID. Otherwise you have FFN issues.

Right, that's what I was thinking - may be worth the $110 not to have a huge mistake...  Especially when traveling internationally....

Why is flying with a PP for ID a big deal?

FFN issues?  IF anything wouldn't married name be better for that?  For AA and KE...

Not a big deal at all, what I meant was if I book a ticket by mistake under her married name...

If she wants to accrue miles or have benefits then having 2 names on tickets makes no sense.

Not a big deal at all, what I meant was if I book a ticket by mistake under her married name...
Exactly why we did everything under her maiden name.

If you use different names for D vs I tickets it creates FFN accrual issues, GE/PreCheck issues, and may lead to a mistake.
I don't see why anyone would do that.

I hear that. So, either maiden for all, or married for all. So now for your wife on all her ff programs your going to switch her name now I guess?

Need to visit GE office in person to change, right?

Indeed.
So in hindsight, for one just starting out, would it make sense just to pay the $110 and switch the passport now?

Seems like a total waste of $110
