Low Voltage, Security, Intercoms Etc. DIY Master Thread
« on: September 19, 2016, 02:23:36 PM »
Let me start...

I'm trying to find an idea so that we can take an afternoon nap and the old fashioned chime should not disturb...
I was thinking of something like these spring wound switches https://www.zoro.com/search?q=Spring-Wound+Timers

But for reverse use, it should be off for the duration of the timer, so let's say I wound the timer for 1 hour during that time there will be NO power to the chime, when the hour is over power is returned.
Is there any hack  ;) for this?

I would appreciate any help or better solutions regarding this

Simple solution, - get a "shabbos clock",

https://www.amazon.com/iPower-GLTIME-Increments-Protection-Construction/dp/B00BDGHJK4/

plug the 12v or 24v transformer that powers up the chime/doorbell into it, and have it only be powered the hours you choose.

Doesn't work in my zip code  ;)

It's not the same time everyday and I'm looking for a set it and forget it solution, I can as well make a simple on/off switch but then I will forget to turn it back on.

From what I learned till now a NC relay should do the trick but I will need some guidance to accomplish that

Whats the difference between the three?

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004SOZI2Y/
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004AP92N2/
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00D5YET7I/

Looking to get the exact the same as attached, sunset/sunrise led compatible (previous versions had some issues with LED) to be used with chandelier with incandescent bulbs TIA.

I got my answer:
some timers work without a neutral wire therefore they need a minimum wattage to pass the timer in order for it to work (I don't yet understand how) these timers don't work well with low voltage/wattage bulbs IE cfl/led bulbs since there's not enough current passing the wire.
the newer models have there own circuit therefore requires a neutral wire too and works on all types of bulbs.

Is there a standard wire type for intercoms & security cam? I'm buying by a new development and afraid they might rip me off so I just want to get the wiring done now and add intercoms & cams later

Depending on your Security camera and intercom, Most modern day Intercoms and Security cameras are using CAT5 or CAT6.

Thanks

Say standard intercoms (no clue what is used nowadays) and a Camera system (either with my own drive or a cloud service) +  Nest/ring doorbell - I should just wire with Cat6 and i'm fine?

Yes, better wire with CAT6 and  remember to terminate the wires to where the Modem\Router will be.

Any recommendations for an outdoor security camera. I prefer wired and where I have a screen where I can see what's going on asides from using an app on my phone. I have heard you can get 2 weeks of free recording but I don't know what brand/service was used.

I know the thread says DIY, but I am willing to pay someone on the Queens area to install so if you know someone, a recommendation would be great.

Thanks!

Looking to do a DIY project for home intercoms/entry control/pa system

Can anyone recommend a good and affordable brand (can be Chinese too) that will have all options and easily integrated.

If I do a pbx I should be able to handle everything with sip, entry intercoms and phones can be used too, a good brand I found is Fanvil.

However I wonder if I have any affordable options outside of sip like the old Aiphone systems.

As a matter of fact I can get the Aiphone supplies pretty cheap on eBay but the cables are expensive and cumbersome to wire
