Would have been interesting if they would have tried FLL like EK did, and codeshare with jetBlue.
They'd lose out on AA LATAM connections.

True, which is why MIA makes sense over FLL, despite being a despised airport by people flying domestically. I would also assume that it makes sense for connections to other domestic AA flights.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

MIA is easily my least favorite airport in the world.

LGA is 2nd.
Though the truth is I'd usually rather fly to LGA then any other NYC airport, while I'd pay a premium to fly to FLL over MIA.

Why would you choose LGA over JFK?
The only reason I could think of is if you are going to Manhattan.

Choosing between LGA, JFK or EWR depends on circumstances. In chances of weather related IRROPS, LGA is to be avoided, it shuts down much sooner. For free long-term parking, JFK is best (something I just recently discovered), with on-street parking available just a quick hop away (on a hotel shuttle or taxi/Uber). For free on-street medium term parking (could be up to a week) which is just a short walk from terminal (which isn't huge like JFK terminals are) LGA is the best. If one needs to fly UA, then EWR is the only real option (no JFK and limited LGA service).

Curious why everyone says that. I was only in FLL once and in MIA once, I didn't notice any particular difference.  So I'm curious what factors in MIA's universal derision.

How long did it take you to get from your car to the gate in either of those? How easy/fast was it to get the the airport from the highways?

UA has 6 daily CLE-LGA and 6 daily CLE-EWR flights (as well as 2 daily CAK-EWR flights).
AA has 3 daily CLE-LGA, 2 daily CAK-LGA, and 1 daily CLE-JFK flight.
And I rarely fly DL.

LGA is simply easiest for Manhattan and has the most frequencies.

Different perspective based on your home base, though as mentioned I also prefer LGA for domestic flights (which usually are short hops).

You are probably in Manhattan more frequently than I am.  ;D

Interesting. That's the only reason? I guess in my case, they were about the same. I don't remember anything special about either of them.

How can you compare

to

Or the FLL car rental center to MIA car rentals?

MIA is a massive airport that takes a long time to get to your gate.
Security lines at MIA are often very long
Regional flights at MIA are a royal PITA, worse than anywhere in the US.
Getting to the MIA car rental facility is a massive shlep.
Leaving/getting to MIA involves toll roads.
FLL is more centrally located for everywhere except downtown MIA/South Beach.

It's almost a joke how far the walk is to car rental facilities in MIA.

Worse then LGA?

Can't beat LGA location to Midtown, easy with public transportation too.

I've flown to/from MIA only once or twice in the last decade (and maybe one or two more times in my lifetime) and all I remember from the airport is how long the walk was (on top of the Mover, or whatever they call it) to get to the car rental, and then the drive to the highway was a PITA, compared to being on the 595/95 right out of FLL (though I wish B6 and DL would fly in and out of Terminal 1 in FLL, which makes getting to the car rental center even more of a breeze).

Got it. Thanks. Now we have it all written up for future generations. Wiki anyone? MIA Vs FLL.  Maybe in south Florida master thread?

I thought of writing this before, but held off until I saw the post about AA on DDMS. Having an LY/AA itinerary sounds (and based on a friend's experience coming from Israel via CDG on an AA ticket) like a recipe for a nightmare. Two of the most despised major airlines.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!
