If people know him under his username...duh! Why did this whole thread turn into a "bash-the-OP-for-not-using-his-real-username" thread? Give him a break!
Not bashing. Just dont understand what he is afraid of. Especially if he disagrees with the opinion of this rabbi.
If anything, ones credibility is stronger when using his real username, and his opinions will be more accepted.
Life is as good as you make it...

I think this thread is too personal about an individual and should be deleted.
If it's real isn't it what the letter writer intended?

True. But for whatever reason this time he doesn't want to use his username. What's the big deal

I don't see this on the supposed author's facebook.

I think this is likely a malicious "outing" of his kid.

I am going to out on a limb and say transgender kids would not be welcomed in most of the schools. Would that be accurate?

I don't know anything about this (sad) situation, but as far as credentials go...

He may have once been in BMG, but he is currently going for a doctorate at JTS.

You can hear how it would be complicated in a non co-ed school.
I'm guessing most catholic schools would be similar.
Who do you think you are fooling? You think you are going to pull a quick one on your Creator? Good luck with that.

It wasn't posted on his Facebook. It was written for someone else, and he was then asked if it could be shared publicly.

Right.  Allegedly asked.

Or more likely,  not asked

He was asked in the thread, and he answered there.

Like those guys that give hashgachos on restaurants that are open on shabbos but in their CV (No not you, CM or any of your other gilgulim) they put musmach of Torah Vodaas to make it all kosher.
Fair warning - Any PMs sent in response to forum posts are fair game for ridicule in public.

I may be suffering from a lack of imagination, but I have a hard time understanding how a child could become transgender with out the assistance of his parents.

If I am correct, that leaves the parent somewhat uniquely unqualified to speak in the name of Orthodoxy.  If Columbia Alum is correct, that is another dis-qualifier.

Why would that be?

Why would that be?

I assumed this meaning of child.  I now realize that may have been a mistaken assumption.

child
CHīld/
noun
noun: child; plural noun: children

a young human being below the age of puberty or below the legal age of majority.

a son or daughter of any age.
        an immature or irresponsible person.
        "she's such a child!"

I don't think the discussion is about a post-op transgender child. Though I agree with your point anyway.

I was not assuming post-op.  I don't want to get in to details, but I'll say that while I can understand same sex attraction developing without conscious promotion by the parents,  I don't see how a transgender identity can develop without either parental promotion or gross parental neglect, perhaps barring extreme cases of mental illness (delusional.)

Because you're assuming it's something that develops.

Right, I saw the post about puberty in the definition and started editing, but then saw you responded already.

I agree with the basic point you expressed.
