Have not listened to the shiur, but 1) from the descriptions you're using, it sounds like what he's saying is based on jewish mysticism, and 2) This is the guy who used to be a professional surfer, pretty sure he's both been out there and knows what's going on out there.

Second of all I don’t think he meant the actual items rather the actions they do.  He was saying the world is full of actions that relate to the masculine and feminine interaction
When he says water is masculine and the cup is feminine is he talking about sexual terms?

Maybe he's speaking metaphorically? Come on, @ChaimMoskowitz. You don't have to be so concrete.

Trying to figure why anyone would refer to water/cup that way. Being he is a religious leader I give him the benefit but if it was a regular person I would be asking what kind of sickO the person was.

I was looking to buy mini, micro and type c USB converters today, and all the perverted sellers on Amazon are calling them male and female and whatnot. It's an horrendous world out there.

I didn't think cholent is dense.
Look there was 1000+ examples he could have used. Water/cup is not one of them.

+1. The Rabbi didn't come up with the idea.

When he says water is masculine and the cup is feminine is he talking about sexual terms?

Perhaps someone with more extensive Kabbalastic knowledge can back me up, but I believe the (in overly simplified terms) idea is that all of Creation (including but not limited to sexuality) breaks down into the original duplicity of the Male/Female dynamic.

One is an expanding force and the other is a containing force. I think water/cup can illustrate the idea pretty well. At the fusion of these opposite forces is where creation happens.

When he says water is masculine and the cup is feminine is he talking about sexual terms?

Hebrew, like some other languages (I believe German is one of them) assigns gender to inanimate objects. On a superficial level, water is treated as masculine grammatically and cups are treated as feminine.  Since Hebrew was created by God, the gender assignments of various nouns are not assumed to be arbitrary but rather tied to the nature of that noun in some way.  Various disciplines of Jewish thought deal with ideas derived from the gender of particular things, among them Kabala, which I know very little about.

I don't think this has anything to do with grammatical gender.

IINM cups can be both grammatically.

King Solomon said a parable about parables. A candle worth a penny was used to find a golden coin that had been lost.
The parable itself is just the cheap candle. But the idea that it illuminates can be priceless.
