Amex serve to meet spend threehold

Anyone been having an issue with using an Amex Serve to load money onto Amex card in order to meet the spend threshold for a welcome offer.  Does Amex loads not count toward meeting spending thresholds anymore?  I did it successfully six months ago but in my most recent card,  I met the spend threshold 3 months ago but no points ever posted.  Anybody else having this problem?  I have never had this card before so it's not an issue of already getting the lifetime limit of points
