After living in israel 10 years then uber / lyft everywhere.. I did what grownups do.. ironic, used to "borrrow" my mothers van at 13-14 (but miami in the summer is dead)

Can any one point me on some quick tips for car rentals ? like who status matches what, what points to earn from who?

I would start with Priceline.com and rent from the cheapest option from the more known company's  like Hertz, Avis, Enterprise and see which one works the best for you

Definitely, although the combination of a friendly agent and status (which gives them extra liberty) is great.
