Question About Mikvah Cards
« on: September 27, 2016, 07:37:21 PM »
Does anyone have any idea on what technology the usual Mikva cards are based?  NFC?  RFID?
Reason why I'm asking is because I would like to make a access control system and program the same cards so that people can use their existing cards and not have to shlep around another card is that possible?

Satmar ≠ SatmarHQ

I Believe it's RFID,
NFC needs a power source to take advantage of two way communication,
most mikvah cards are powerless [I think].

Oh i forgot to recharge my mikvah card

Since 2006, RFID tags included in new United States passports will store the same information that is printed within the passport, and include a digital picture of the owner.[36]

The United States Department of State initially stated the chips could only be read from a distance of 10 centimetres (3.9 in), but after widespread criticism and a clear demonstration that special equipment can read the test passports from 10 metres (33 ft) away,[37] the passports were designed to incorporate a thin metal lining to make it more difficult for unauthorized readers to "skim" information when the passport is closed.

The department will also implement Basic Access Control (BAC), which functions as a Personal Identification Number (PIN) in the form of characters printed on the passport data page.

Before a passport's tag can be read, this PIN must be entered into an RFID reader. The BAC also enables the encryption of any communication between the chip and interrogator.[38] As noted in the section below on security, there are many situations in which these protections have been shown to be insufficient, and passports have been cloned based on scans of them while they were being delivered in the mail.

this⇊?
13.56 Mhz (high-frequency) tags are usually read/write, they can typically store about 1 to 2 kilbytes of data in addition to their preset (permanent) unique ID number.

Are mikvah cards only used to read the uid or writes every time it's used? I believe it only reads, someone told me it writes..

Thanks,
It is interesting because I tried to program a RFID key chain from another entry system and it worked but with the Mikva card the reader didn't even recognize it

Mikvah card systems is your trade? I will be looking into getting a turnstile for a Mikvah in the very near future, what's the general price range for those? One that accepts cash and Mikvah cards (perhaps CCs if it isn't too much more expensive). Please feel free to let me know if this is a loaded question, since I know noting about this :)

Definitely do CC You will want to add it later anyway and it will cost much more if you don't do it initially

So I hear, I'd have to know the price difference first though.
