If you are using the door as you would a light switch then yes.
What determines whether you're using it as a light switch?

Well, sort of. The connotation that you're skirting the intention of the law is wrong. It is a loophole in the sense that you're achieving the same results. The thing is, the law wasn't intended merely to prevent the results, it was intended to forbid the action.
Exactly why I think loophole is the wrong word. Loophole canotes things like using the wording of the tax code to avoid paying taxes, while you're technically following the rules, what you're doing is wrong, that's not the case here.

The person opening and closing it would know that.

Again, the problem isn't to be able to have darkness in a room, rather to actually break the circuit (or extinguish the fire in an incandescent bulb)

Yes, I'm explaining why people are using it nonetheless.

I fully understand what you are saying. Is it so hard for you all to understand that a non-Jew can have a different perspective?

You have a different perspective on what G-d wants from us than He told us He does?

How can you have a different perspective on how our system of right and wrong works?

The same as I would normally do. A better question is what you will be doing. Then what will you be doing ten days from that?

I meant you'll have nobody to fight with on DDF.

Even on a Friday I am not going there.

How can you have a different perspective on how our system of right and wrong works?
The same way I can have a different perspective on the way our legal system works.

My ignorant view of Lent views eating fish during Lent is the same way my educated view of Judaism views covering a light bulb.

BTW, placing a pot over a light to darken the room is explicitly permitted in the Talmud.

I never said your view was ignorant.

I understand you are allowed to cover the light according to your laws. You can tell me the same thing a hundred different ways and I still will understand it.  :)

You're avoiding the question, but that's the central point. I don't turn on or off lights on Shabbos because G-d told me not to.

If He is okay with my closing a closet door or using a Kosher Lamp, there's no reason for me not to. And I (with my rabbis' help) am more qualified to determine (i.e. "have a different perspective on") that He is okay with it.

That is correct. I said it on my own because I know that I am ignorant on Catholics rules and customs. I am sure that by now you are more knowledgeable about Judaism than I am about Catholicism.

My understanding of a loophole is when someone exploits a "quark" in the law too circumvent its intention. As such if an exception is explicitly made or was never meant to be included in the first place that is not a loophole. That is my understanding of why one may eat fish based on your quote that Lent only includes
the flesh of animals that take their rest on the earth, and of those that breathe the air and their products.”
which does not include fish. That is similar to when the Talmud explicitly differentiates between extinguishing and covering.

As such neither would be
-an ambiguity or inadequacy in the law or a set of rules.

As an aside:
Very good point. If you believe fish is meat then you should not eat it even if your spiritual adviser says it is OK. They do draw the line at chicken.  :)
So stop eating fish during lent
this may have been your worst argument yet
???
