An I missing something? This is literally the same idea as the shabbos lamp, just in a different, not necessarily more useful form. It sounds like price might be a slight advantage, but ease of use seems like a disadvantage.

Use it for a lamp that you already have, not a ceiling fixture.

For traveling it's a lot more convenient than a Shabbos lamp if going to a hotel etc.

This is confusing. The thread starts with the Kosherswitch, which was rejected by mainstream poskim, and then starts discussing this newer invention.

But he's only making these in 40W equivilants. I guess I willhave to get some LEDs and use the Tzitzis method. Not exactly that, but something a little safer.

Are you talking about the Kosher Switch (which we all know doesn't have any competent Haskamos) or the new Shabbulb that was announced yesterday and mentioned a couple of posts back? The latter seemingly has a lot of Haskamos with confirmations
