The real problem with anything Google makes that is"new" is this:

The whole concept of "Oh, this is not making us as much money as we had hoped, let's sunset it and replace it with something else!" *really* annoys me.
Google Chat? Nope, now it's..
Google Talk? Nope, now it's..
Google Voice? Nope, now it's..
Google Hangouts? Nope, now it's..
Allo and Duo?

What makes this more then incremental to the latest Nexus, hardware or software wise?
And why does that justify the price jump?
Not even really incremental. And there are plenty of cheaper, better options

+1 There always are.
And I agree. At this point the I'd have a hard time recommending this over a Nexus 6p or plenty of other devices.

The 15 min to full charge would make this device worth its money.

It's "up to 7 hours of battery life in just 15 minutes", my Moto X Pure that came out a year ago gets "up to 10 hours on a 15 minute charge". There are many other phones that do it nowadays too.

Its just quick charge 3.0

The LG G5 and HTC 10 both have it as well.

No.
Up to 80% in 30 minutes.

Quick charge standards competition: Android authority

VOOC is the fastest on the market today, used in Oppo and One+ phones. (But you must use very discursive specific chargers and even cables)

I read somewhere the LeEco LePro 3 has the same processor as the Pixel...and a hefty battery life capping in at $399 now.

Got one in hand today. Thicker than I thought it would be. Wish the front would be metal also. From the few minutes I had with it, it seems super fast.

I have a Note 5 now and haven't decided what to replace it with...if anything at all.

I went to local VZW on lunch to play with the new devices.  Felt good in hand, fast fluid interface, liked it but didn't quite love it.  I think it is overpriced and will come down soon but I could be wrong.  They had no problem selling preorders.

My house is all off contract so I usually buy outright and sell previous devices as we upgrade.

I came away feeling like my Note 5 is still a very solid performer although I like the beginnings of a pure Google phone after the end of the Nexus brand.

Still undecided...hell, I might buy one at lunch tomorrow.  ha

If size isn't a factor I'd wait for the LG V20 before deciding.
Though like you said Note 5 should still be great, though I'm not a fan of the software.

I've thought about V20 as well...good thought.  One of my favorite phones was the LG G2.

I know what you mean on the Note 5.  I use Nova and call it a day...I can get over the other stuff but the stock launcher leaves a lot to be desired.

I don't think it's worth the money to upgrade from that HTC 10 -

And why is that?
Any specific reason?
What if I can get the pixel xl for free, is it worth it then?

Because the jump you're making isn't that great at that point. If you can get it for free then yeah you will be upgrading in some ways (speed, newest OS, screen, camera, etc) and downgrading in some ways (speaker, sound quality, build quality etc)
And it's more a  matter of preference at that point mostly.
