I am aware of the problem with spammers writing stuff on our forums. These are all automated bots and it's a litle hard to get rid of it, but slowly but surely I am blocking their IP addresses and the domains of their e-mail addresses. There are still plenty of ways that they can get through, but for now this is all I can do.

The best thing for you to do is to use the link to report the thread and I will get an e-mail alerting me of the SPAM, and I will remove is as soon as possible.

Thanks to the people who have already been reporting the bad threads.

I changed the registration a little bit to further get rid of spammers. Unfortunately, it's not easy to keep up with them.

Try changing say the captcha at signup with a different, ie non standard one (rather a mod), as those posts are by a program that deals with all standard aspects of the forum, incl activation links etc.
Blocking IP addresses is a waste of time.

Check xrumer to get an idea of those programs power.

It can signup and post @ 10,000's of forum per minute.

@SF Interesting according to Wikipedia the best solution seems to get a list of the top spammers and the admin. could preemptively block all those Ip's (in one shot?) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XRumer#Defenses

Seems like manual. Because when everyone (me) was voting that they don't like their product. The polls changed in their favor so must be someone with half a brain. Also they all posted with a lag between each one implying not a computer...

The signups are automatic of course. (Some geniuses might sign up manually)

If you can get IP lists you can block them via the .htaccess file in the root.

The same thing do online shops who block entire contries access to their shop.

I just found this thread and I was wondering if this is still an issue on DDF, and if yes, is it a bigger or small issue than in was in 2012.

Are there new technologies that help block spammers?

It's definitely still an issue I don't believe there is many new threads created by them though.
